Today I took a 20L plastic storage container full of clothes to the consignment store Secondi. I thought this was a lot until I saw the meter high bag (you know the blue and white stripped ones favored by homeless people) left from the person who came before me. The women sorted through my things – it was so hard not to snatch back my black handbag – I browsed the stores racks. I ran my fingers over silk tops, imaged myself attending balls in new diamond stilettos, searched for a new handbag now that I have given away my black one. But luckily I didn’t buy anything and left the store less 13 pieces of clothing. Unfortunately she had passed on 9 items including 2 pairs of shoes, a headband and belt bought in Melbourne and some tops. It showed her good taste that she could tell these were pretty worthless. Of course I thought about taking these things home again. I imagined wearing the black and white polka dot top again, slipping on the peep toe shoes. But I pulled myself up remembering that both were rather uncomfortable and better off out of my life. Also I will make 40% on each sale and support the owner of Secondi and her smart little boutique business, both of these things makes me happy.
For the unloved items, Mi Amor dropped pass the goodwill bin on the way home. Even there I struggled to push these last few things through the shoot. But I did it and now today I am a total of 22 items lighter. yay.
(I did have one moment of weakness though. At Secondi I ticked the box that said I agreed that after 3 months my unsold items will be donated to goodwill. I crossed this out and then ticked the box that said I would collect unsold items; just in case my darling black handbag doesn’t get sold.)
